Ivorycares Deepavali Festive Contribution - 13 October 2008

In conjunction with the Deepavali festivity, Ivorycares decided to reach out to Sunshine Cottage Welfare Society in Kulim which was the Club’s first charity activity organized out of Penang. There are altogether 36 children between ages 5 to 18 and 8 of them are handicapped whom are from very poor family backgrounds.  Ms Maria Benedicta George, the President of Sunshine Cottage mentioned that there is also another home located not too far from there where they care for the old folks as well.  The children are mostly teenaged girls and they are separated from the boys who live with the old folks.

The function started off with Hi-Tea comprising noodles and local delicacies.  For those who were unable to feed themselves, Ivorycares members helped out in personally serving them.  While they enjoyed the food, the volunteers went around and got to know them.  They had great fun participating in the games that were organized plus there were colourful tattoo stamping that they experienced for the first time.  After the games, all the children were gathered to receive their ang pow and goodie bags.

Besides the hi-tea and ang pow that was given to all the residents of Sunshine Cottage, Ivorycares members also contributed food stuff such as rice, milo, oats, nestum, biscuits, noodles and milk, amounting to about RM2,500.
