In conjunction with the Hari Raya and Deepavali celebration, Ivorycares organized a festive charity contribution by visiting two charity homes, namely, Relau Rumah Charis and Rumah Seri Cahaya in Batu Maung. A total of 29 Ivorycares members and volunteers participated in this charitable occasion that was held on Saturday, 24th November 2007.
The first visit was to Relau Rumah Charis, an old folk’s home comprising 31 residents aged between 60 to 103 years old. At the time, some of the old folk were fixing fasteners to paper files which arrived in lorry loads from a manufacturing company, i.e. Asia File. Ivorycares members also assisted them in fastening the files, which is also a pass time activity that offers them some form of physical therapy. After chit chatting with the old folk, Ivorycares presented hampers (comprising food stuff), pre-packed lunch and ‘ang pow’ to each resident.
Rumah Seri Cahaya in Batu Maung is a home especially for orphans and single parents comprising 75 kids and 14 senior citizens. Upon reaching the home, the children were entertained by 3 fun mascots and given tattoo art on their hands and faces. The tattoo is paint based and is done by stamping onto the skin with glitter dust. During the same day, there was another function held in the neighborhood called Kempen Membaca, organized by Penang MCA. The VIP present was YB Wong Kam Hoong, the Deputy Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage who arrived at Rumah Seri Cahaya to present a mock cheque of RM2,500.00 and gave-away school bags to the children. Also present were Ivory’s Executive Director, Dato’ Nazir Ariff and Project Director, Ron Loh who took part in the official presentation at Rumah Seri Cahaya. Dato’ Nazir, on behalf of Ivorycares, presented hampers to
Mdm Kaliamah, the caretaker of the home and personally offered RM2,000.00 towards the home’s fund. Ivorycares sponsored the lunch and distributed gift packs and ‘ang pow’ to all the residents and volunteers, totaling 89 children and adults during the visit. Towards the end of the visit, games such as musical chairs, passing parcel and limbo rock where conducted where the children had loads of fun! |
